Six beaches on Skyros, ranked by effort

From a five-minute walk to a one-kilometre coastal hike, the beaches around Skyros vary widely in how you reach them — and how empty they feel when you arrive.

The first thing you notice on Skyros is how many beaches there are, and how few people on each. There’s no single ‘famous’ strip pulling the crowds; you choose by effort.

Here are six worth knowing, from easy to wild.

1. Molos & Girismata — 5-minute walk from us

A long sweep of golden sand at the quiet end of the bay below the property. Two simple tavernas at the far end. The sand goes shallow gently — easy for swimming, easy for kids. Pretty much our default beach on any day we haven’t planned anything.

2. Magazia — for a walk into Chora afterwards

Sandy, slightly busier, and within walking distance of Chora’s cobbled lanes. Cafés, beach bars, sometimes a sun-lounger rental. Pair a morning here with an afternoon climbing through the village.

3. Agios Fokas — quieter, pine-forest walk in

A whitewashed chapel splits the cove into two parts; the smaller side is almost always empty. The walk in goes through pine trees and the wind drops behind them. Bring water; the path is short but exposed.

4. Kalamitsa — wide, cold, good for windsurfing

One of the largest beaches on the island. Underwater springs keep the water unusually cool, which keeps the crowds thinner. Reliable wind from the northwest most afternoons; windsurfers and kitesurfers school out of it. If that’s your thing, this is the one.

5. Sarakinikos / Glyfada — small boat from Linaria

The water here is the cleanest you’ll see all week — translucent, glass-flat in the morning. You reach it by small boat from Linaria harbour; a few captains run shuttles in summer, and you ask at the port. There’s a small taverna on land at the cove serving a famous lobster pasta if you want to make a full afternoon of it.

6. Agalipa — 1 km coastal hike

The wildest entry on this list. From Kyra-Panagia you walk a coastal path of moderate difficulty — about 20 minutes each way — and emerge at a small cove tucked between pink rocks. Crystal water. Very few people. Pack water and a swim mask. Late afternoon light is unbelievable.
